This project reveals a broader and more diverse panorama of the classical guitar\, be it highlighting voices from different Brazilian regions\, cultures\, and traditions\, as well as promoting an artistic dialogue between classical and electric guitar.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7-9pm – Joel Shapira and Zacc Harris\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGuitarist Joel Shapira is an internationally acclaimed musician residing in St. Paul / Minneapolis MN. Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte opens the program by playfully reimagining the traditions of the string quartet\, leading us somewhere both familiar and unexpected. Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Fantasie-Stücke follows with lyrical warmth and expressive depth\, reflecting the rich musical voice of a composer whose work bridges cultural traditions. \nPhilip Glass’s Quartet Satz crosses another kind of border\, bringing the string quartet into the meditative world of repetition and pulse. Glass challenges traditional ideas of classical development\, finding movement and transformation within patterns that unfold gradually over time. \nThe program culminates in Aleksandra Vrebalov’s Pannonia Boundless\, inspired by the shared folk traditions of Central and Eastern Europe. Here\, political boundaries give way to the deeper cultural connections carried through music\, memory\, and tradition. \nTogether\, these works invite us to consider the borders we inherit\, the cultures we carry\, and the ways music can move freely across them. Eric’s arrangements of traditional songs and jazz standards are considered classics in picking circles\, as one of America’s best original fingerstyle composers and talented songwriter. Eric has played and taught in festivals around the world including The Wirral International Guitar Festival\, The Ullapool Guitar Festival\, International Guitar Meeting in Sarzana\, Italy\, and The New York Guitar Festival. He’s had the honor of performing with greats such as Doc Watson\, Taj Mahal\, John Prine\, and David Bromberg.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7-9pm – Mike Dowling\n\nGrammy-winning Mike Dowling digs deep into the musical bag of American roots guitar\, favoring the melodic Piedmont style of acoustic blues masters like Mississippi John Hurt and slide great Tampa Red. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE \nPatti Cudd is active as a percussion soloist\, chamber musician and educator. Patti is a member of the acclaimed new music ensemble\, Zeitgeist. Her other diverse performing opportunities have included CRASH\, the Minnesota Contemporary Ensemble\, Minnesota Dance Theatre and the Borrowed Bones Dance Theater. As a percussion soloist and chamber musician\, she has premiered well over 200 new works and has recorded under the labels Neuma\, Hat Hut\, Bridge\, New World\, CRI\, Innova\, Emf Media\, Sideband\, and Mode. She recently released a triple solo CD on Innova Recordings of solo percussion and electronic pieces. Patti is a Yamaha Performing Artist\, an endorser of Sabian Cymbals\, and a member of the Vic Firth and Black Swamp Education Teams.\nJeff Johnson is an improvising guitarist/bassist\, a composer\, and original member of Teenage Boatpeople\, an avant garde group founded in 1979. Jeff also has video on the YouTube channel for The Waves . \nMaura Bosch is a composer and pianist. Her music inhabits the spaces between classical\, ambient and jazz. This program will include a performance by Bosch and Cudd of a work-in-progress\, “Dogs and Water\,” for piano and percussion. (We have not yet decided who is “dogs” and who is “water\,” but we do hope to work that out between now and November 22!) \n🎵 \nYour ticket supports MetroNOME’s work to open doors to music education for local kids who are eager to play. DESCRIPTION:Grady Cartony & Friends\n\n\n\nGrady Cartony is an 18 year old tenor saxophonist making his mark on the Twin Cities jazz scene — playing professionally since 14 and picking up the saxophone at age 10. \nThough tenor saxophone is his primary voice\, Grady is a true multi-instrumentalist\, also performing on alto and soprano saxophone\, clarinet\, flute\, and piano. He has played throughout the Twin Cities metro with ensembles including the Minnesota Youth Jazz Band and the Nova Contemporary Jazz Orchestra\, among many others\, and was selected for the Minnesota All-State Jazz Band. Grady also leads his own quintet\, the “Grady Cartony Quintet” and you can see them playing all over the Twin Cities! \nHis playing draws from the language of Gene Ammons\, Charlie Parker\, John Coltrane\, Cedar Walton\, and Sonny Stitt\, among many others. Grady has performed at venues and festivals including the Dakota Jazz Club\, Jazz Central\, Crooners Supper Club\, MetroNome Brewery\, the Pablo Center at the Confluence\, Minnesota Music Cafe\, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival\, the Duluth Jazz Festival\, the Berlin MPLS and Smalls Jazz Club in New York City — sharing the stage with artists such as Chad LB\, Kenni Holmen\, Dale Alexander\, Tom Lewis\, Omar Abdulkarim\, Kevin Washington\, Jennifer Grimm\, Kavyesh Kaviraj\, and Phil Hey. He has studied under acclaimed jazz artists Scott Johnson\, Mike Tucker\, Ryan Devlin\, and Eric Alexander. \nGrady is currently at the prestigious New England Conservatory in Boston\, and is studying under Jerry Bergonzi and Donny McCaslin. \n🎶 \nA portion of every pint\, along with your added support\, goes directly to music education programs in the Twin Cities. At 2 minutes\, the Bomb Rule takes effect! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Bomb Rule\nIf you bomb within the first 2 minutes\, your set stops\, alarms sound\, and music hits. Once off stage\, the crowd throws foam bombs at the target. If someone hits the target\, everyone wins discounted drinks! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSurvive & Thrive\nIf you survive the first 2 minutes\, you get the full 5 minutes to finish strong. Once finished\, the audience will rate your set. Your average score will go towards the nightly competition and the league standings! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNightly & Season League Prizes\nPrizes are awarded to the nightly winner. The Don’t Bomb Comedy League regular season champion receives a prize pack valued at over $3\,500!
