DESCRIPTION:After Hours Big Band – Fred Sturm’s Migrations\n\n\n\nTICKETS AVAILABLE HERE \nSettle in for an evening with After Hours Big Band: Fred Sturm’s Migrations—a journey through classic and modern big band charts\, played up close in Fingal’s Cave. \n“I have spoken at length to my students\, as well as to the members of the After Hours Big Band\, about music as a living art form.  The gist of this semi-soapboxed speech is that the music we play does not need to sound identical to their original recordings.  (This is when I would normally bemoan\, “If I wanted to hear the original recordings\, I would do just that… listen to the original recordings.”)  Rather\, the music lives on because of the people playing it\, it is a Living Art Form. \nThis embodies the After Hours Big Band in my mind: a network of friends who wanted to see their own playing live on after years of playing in collegiate ensembles (as well as high school and middle school jazz bands.) \nThe original ensemble consisted of educators from Minnesota and Wisconsin; meeting once a month to play through a handful of “old favorites.”  In the years that followed\, the group expanded and evolved into both a performing ensemble as well as an educational resource for Twin Cities school music programs. \nThe After Hours Big Band continues to perform for a variety of events and is dedicated to performing the highest quality of music while reaching a broad variety of audience members.  We have performed community concerts\, weddings\, private parties\, school outreach concerts\, alongside wonderful guest artists\, and more.” \nMichale Pearson\,  Director \n. \nYour ticket supports The MetroNOME Foundation’s mission: making music education possible for any child who loves music. He has studied with several world renowned jazz musicians such as Patrick Bartley\, Bob Reynolds\, Adam Larson\, and Steve Kortyka. Aside from performing\, Race has a strong passion for education and has taught Band and Jazz Band at Fargo South High School and was an adjunct saxophone instructor at Concordia College. During his summers\, Race has studied music in Italy\, Finland\, and New York City and has also performed on several cruise ships around the world with Royal Caribbean. He has performed and recorded with the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. He has been a regular on “A Prairie Home Companion” and played in a number of Broadway pit bands. \nBilly Peterson is one of the most celebrated bass players in the world. His uncompromising talents as a performer have brought him widespread recognition\, as well as his numerous credits as a composer\, arranger and producer. Billy’s contributions to the music scene are inestimable. \nWill Kjeer brings the continuum of jazz music to new audiences and stages across the globe. DESCRIPTION:Grady Cartony & Friends\n\n\n\nGrady Cartony is an 18 year old tenor saxophonist making his mark on the Twin Cities jazz scene — playing professionally since 14 and picking up the saxophone at age 10. \nThough tenor saxophone is his primary voice\, Grady is a true multi-instrumentalist\, also performing on alto and soprano saxophone\, clarinet\, flute\, and piano. He has played throughout the Twin Cities metro with ensembles including the Minnesota Youth Jazz Band and the Nova Contemporary Jazz Orchestra\, among many others\, and was selected for the Minnesota All-State Jazz Band. Grady also leads his own quintet\, the “Grady Cartony Quintet” and you can see them playing all over the Twin Cities! \nHis playing draws from the language of Gene Ammons\, Charlie Parker\, John Coltrane\, Cedar Walton\, and Sonny Stitt\, among many others. Grady has performed at venues and festivals including the Dakota Jazz Club\, Jazz Central\, Crooners Supper Club\, MetroNome Brewery\, the Pablo Center at the Confluence\, Minnesota Music Cafe\, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival\, the Duluth Jazz Festival\, the Berlin MPLS and Smalls Jazz Club in New York City — sharing the stage with artists such as Chad LB\, Kenni Holmen\, Dale Alexander\, Tom Lewis\, Omar Abdulkarim\, Kevin Washington\, Jennifer Grimm\, Kavyesh Kaviraj\, and Phil Hey. He has studied under acclaimed jazz artists Scott Johnson\, Mike Tucker\, Ryan Devlin\, and Eric Alexander. \nGrady is currently at the prestigious New England Conservatory in Boston\, and is studying under Jerry Bergonzi and Donny McCaslin. \n🎶 \nA portion of every pint\, along with your added support\, goes directly to music education programs in the Twin Cities.
