SUMMARY:NxtGn Jazz
DESCRIPTION:We are a locally-based quartet that plays jazz standards. The members of the group consist of Juan Miguel (saxophonist)\, Roman (pianist)\, Ryan (bassist)\, and Howard (drummer). Our hope is to spread our love of jazz and enjoy ourselves while performing. \nWe began our quartet recently\, because we all wanted to spend more time together with a common interest in mind. We all played in the school band together where we all shared a love of music and decided to create a group thus the Juan Miguel quartet was born. We have played at various music schools and hope to play at the Lexington. \n  \nRyan Kari got into the bass through playing upright and electric for school orchestra. He then began playing the bass guitar at home with knowledge from a few elementary-school guitar lessons. Recently through this quartet and an interest in jazz he acquired an interest for playing more upright. \nHoward Huelster started drumming around 3-4 years ago to follow in the footsteps of his father\, who was himself in a band with his friends in college. Howard then joined his middle school jazz band\, where he met the rest of the members of the band. \nJuan Miguel Adams started playing the alto saxophone in middle school. In eighth grade Juan made the daunting switch to the baritone saxophone. He started taking saxophone seriously in his freshman year. The instrument grew on him with its versatile sound. \nRoman Farley started playing piano in 1st grade\, but at the time\, he didn’t find it that interesting. Over time\, piano started to grow on him and he started playing all different types of music. Roman also plays trombone in his school band\, and has a passion for both instruments. \nWe hope to spread our love of jazz and we have great performance prepared for March 10. Hope to see you there!

DESCRIPTION:The MNHBC Jazz Student “SIT-IN” Performance Series \nis funded by a grant from the \nMetropolitan Regional Arts Council and the St. Paul Cultural Star. \n  \nWhat is “Sitting-In”?  \nSitting in is not the same as a “jam session”. A musician’s definition of “sitting in” is to participate in a working group\, as a guest\, usually to play a couple of songs. This usually occurs at the invitation of someone in the band. This is how Jazz Musicians typically audition and introduce one another. Every working musician has a story about when they “sat in” and either got or didn’t get a gig. It is an essential skill for anyone pursuing a career as a Jazz Musician. \n  \nThe mission of this performance series is to provide a formal opportunity for music students to sit in with professional Jazz Musicians\, which aims to help teach students performance skills and confidence building that is not available in the classroom or open mic jam sessions. Students can just show up with their instruments although we prefer some advanced notice via our online signup sheet. \n  \nAll concerts are free\, ADA Accessible\, and open to the public! \n

Collaborating with diverse perspectives and unique gifts\, they contribute to the continuing evolution of the craft\, echoing John Keats’ timeless words : “Beauty is truth\, truth beauty.” It is upon this pillar that the Fíora Ensemble formed\, striving to bring tangible beauty to audiences throughout the Twin Cities. \nTaken from the Irish- Gaelic word Fíor\, meaning real\, true or genuine\, the ensemble aspires to provide meaningful\, expressive and moving experiences for all audiences. Formed in 2024 by original members Anne Ainomaë\, Heidi Amundsen\, Jane Cords-O’Hara and Elise Meichels Parker\, the group seeks to be a collaborative haven for additional local artists. The four principal players have a wealth of experience from all genres and styles of music ranging from classical chamber music to Broadway musicals \, and have worked with local\, national and international ensembles. They have performed at venues such as Orchestra Hall\, Ordway Center\, The Guthrie and Carnegie Hall.

SUMMARY:MN Guitar Society Montly Show
DESCRIPTION:6-7pm Bob “E” Ekstrand\n \n\nGuitarist and composer Bobby Ekstrand <http://www.bobby-e.com/> began playing the guitar at age ten. His eclectic tastes and myriad influences have inspired him to create extremely stylistically diverse music. Over the past 25 years his original work has not only won songwriting contests\, but also has been featured in a National Public Radio broadcast that was later issued as an accompanying compact disc with the book “Remembering Jim Crow” (The New Press)\, and he has produced almost twenty CD’s.\n\n\n7-9pm HENRY & SALFER DUO\n \n\n\n\n\n\nRobb Henry (https://robbhenry.com/) received his first electric guitar in1965 at the age of 12 and began performing with bands the following year.  His experience playing with blues artist Mojo Buford from early 1969 through1970 had a lasting impact on his developing guitar style. In 2001 he formed the collective group Parisota Hot Club to explore the music of French guitarist Django Reinhardt.  Recent Robb Henry trio dates feature an eclectic mix of jazz\, blues\, rock and pop instrumentals played finger-style on his Fender Stratocaster.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDylan Salfer started playing guitar at 9 years old and by age 13 he was playing professionally. At age 14 he was playing with Legendary Chicago blues man James Cotton. Dylan has also played with Buddy Guy on several occasions\, shared stages with Mavis Staples\, Kingfish Ingram\, Marcus King\, and The Spin Doctors. He toured all over the world with Bernard Allison\, and played with Bobby Whitlock (Derek & the Dominoes\, Delaney & Bonnie\, George Harrison).  Now in his 20s\, Dylan is writing original music as a solo artist.

The troupe consists of guitarists Ryan Picone and Jose Betanzos\, violinist Danny Lentz\, and bassist Sean Roderick. \n  \nThe Red Hot Django Peppers had their premiere performance in early 2019 at Moto-I and were then asked to play at the Artists’ Showcase in May 2019. The ensemble is steadily being recognized as one of the up-and-coming hot club jazz groups in the Twin Cities.

DESCRIPTION:The MNHBC Jazz Student “SIT-IN” Performance Series \nis funded by a grant from the \nMetropolitan Regional Arts Council and the St. Paul Cultural Star. \n  \nWhat is “Sitting-In”?&nbsp; \nSitting in is not the same as a “jam session”. A musician’s definition of “sitting in” is to participate in a working group\, as a guest\, usually to play a couple of songs. This usually occurs at the invitation of someone in the band. This is how Jazz Musicians typically audition and introduce one another. Every working musician has a story about when they “sat in” and either got or didn’t get a gig. It is an essential skill for anyone pursuing a career as a Jazz Musician. \n  \nThe mission of this performance series is to provide a formal opportunity for music students to sit in with professional Jazz Musicians\, which aims to help teach students performance skills and confidence building that is not available in the classroom or open mic jam sessions. Students can just show up with their instruments although we prefer some advanced notice via our online signup sheet. \n&nbsp; \nAll concerts are free\, ADA Accessible\, and open to the public! \n
