This is how Jazz Musicians typically audition and introduce one another. Every working musician has a story about when they “sat in” and either got or didn’t get a gig. It is an essential skill for anyone pursuing a career as a Jazz Musician. \n  \nThe mission of this performance series is to provide a formal opportunity for music students to sit in with professional Jazz Musicians\, which aims to help teach students performance skills and confidence building that is not available in the classroom or open mic jam sessions. DESCRIPTION:Mill City Caravan originally started in 2019 as a group of teachers and friends wanting to expand their experience playing hot club style jazz. Since then\, they have expanded to incorporate latin\, pop\, and fusion styles into their repertoire. Sophia Butler (violin) teaches at South High School in Minneapolis and also plays often in the tango community. Nicholas Wilson (guitar) teaches at Roosevelt high school in Minneapolis and plays with other big bands in the Twin Cities. Mike Obert (cello) teaches private lessons and is principal cellist with the Golden Valley Symphony. Kyle Hasse (drums) is a paramedic with MHealth Fairview EMS.

The troupe consists of guitarists Ryan Picone and Jose Betanzos\, violinist Danny Lentz\, and bassist Sean Roderick. \n  \nThe Red Hot Django Peppers had their premiere performance in early 2019 at Moto-I and were then asked to play at the Artists’ Showcase in May 2019. The ensemble is steadily being recognized as one of the up-and-coming hot club jazz groups in the Twin Cities.

SUMMARY:MN Guitar Society Monthly FREE Concert - TrioAmigos - Guitar Collaboration Extraordinaire!
DESCRIPTION:TrioAmigos is a fusion of flamenco\, bossa nova and hot club jazz that was put together through the friendship of three local twin city guitarists; Ben Abrahamson\, Daniel Volovets and Ryan Picone. This collaboration brings together several musical worlds to create a sound that cannot be described with words\, but can only be experienced. \nRyan Picone <https://ryanpicone.com/> is a teacher\, composer\, performer and writer with twenty years of professional experience. He has performed professionally at many venues\, including Town Hall-New York\, Dakota Jazz Club – Minnesota\, and South by Southwest-Texas. In 2023 he released his debut album titled “I – Awake”\, composed in the style of the guitarist – Django Reinhardt. In 2024 he then released his own guitar method “The Compass Guitar Method”.  Currently\, he is a Professor of Music at College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. \nDaniel Volovets <http://www.danielvolovets.com/> is a guitarist\, composer\, and arranger specializing in classical\, flamenco\, Latin-American\, and jazz music. Daniel’s mastery of many genres and aesthetics is evident in the breadth of his repertoire\, which spans numerous countries and eras. He balances dual careers in music and medicine\, practicing as a psychiatrist at Hennepin County Medical Center. \nBen Abrahamson <http://www.benabrahamson.com/> at age 11\, found his path set ablaze by guitar heroes Paco de Lucía\, Leo Kottke\, Ralph Towner\, and his first guitar teacher Gary Lee Joyner. Ben has studied with flamenco guitarists Juan Ramón Caro at Taller de Músics in Barcelona\, Pedro Cortés\, Jr.\, and Michael Hauser. Ben has shared the stage with gospel artists Billy Steele and Tonia Hughes Kendrick\, fingerstylist Tim Sparks\, and Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre. Ben is a faculty member at MacPhail Center for Music.

This is how Jazz Musicians typically audition and introduce one another. Every working musician has a story about when they “sat in” and either got or didn’t get a gig. It is an essential skill for anyone pursuing a career as a Jazz Musician. \n  \nThe mission of this performance series is to provide a formal opportunity for music students to sit in with professional Jazz Musicians\, which aims to help teach students performance skills and confidence building that is not available in the classroom or open mic jam sessions. DESCRIPTION:The Roof Access band is a collection of some of the finest musicians to come out of Minnesota’s jazz scene in recent years. This 5-piece band unanimously won 1st place at the 2023 Eau Claire Jazz Festival and have just finished recording their debut album “Roof Access.” This album features entirely originals written by members of the group Ataa-Adjetey Mensah\, Will Aldrich\, Callum Schultz\, and Rafael Karpowitz. This group excels in the jazz\, swing\, and blues traditions while pushing boundaries and incorporating all the modern sounds of today into their music.  \nThe band features drummer\, singer\, and songwriter Ataa-Adjetey Mensah\, who is creating some of the most creative original music on the scene right now\, holds down the rhythm in the group with some of the most impressive and creative playing ever seen on a young drummer. Callum Schultz\, the youngest member of this band\, is on bass while still in his Junior year of high school. Schultz is an in-demand generational talent and an outstanding composer in his own right\, laying down the harmonic bedrock for this ensemble on both electric and upright bass. On the keys is composer and pianist Rafael Karpowitz\, one of the most sophisticated musical minds in the Twin Cities. His advanced rhythmic and harmonic concepts combined with Schutlz’ flawless bass playing and Mensah’s lavish grooves create the fierce backbone of this ensemble. Tenor saxophone player Gabe Hartnett is one half of the front line with one of the most beautiful tones in a young tenor today and the technical facility to create beautiful\, flowing solos over any song. The other half is Alto saxophonist Will Aldrich who brings a bright and luscious alto sound to the music with the ears and technical facility to create some of the most rich and exciting improvisation in the Twin Cities.
