DESCRIPTION:6-7pm – Gabriela Sweet\n \nFor Gabriela\, her guitars are dearest collaborators. “My 1930s dobros and my Nationals have open sound doors\, so I can hear things that I wouldn’t\, otherwise. I love to hear what these tremendously responsive guitars do especially when improvising and playing bottleneck slide in open tunings”. Gabriela plays instrumentals & songs with words: jazz\, son montuno\, festejo\, zydeco\, American standards\, blues\, and sings in Spanish\, English\, French\, Gaelic\, German\, Italian\, Brazilian Portuguese\, Russian\, Tagalog\, and Ukrainian.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7-9pm – Pavel Jany and Dean Harrington\n \n\nPavel Jany is a contemporary jazz guitarist and composer whose long musical journey encompasses many various styles. Pavel has founded several international jazz projects on the Twin Cities’ music scene\, including Brazilian jazz ensemble Ticket To Brazil\, instrumental trio Talking Strings\, and jazz/fusion group Global Jazz Collegium. He is a co-founder of Duo CORDA and he occasionally performs and records with other local and international artists.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDean Harrington earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of MN and was a first prize winner in the Schubert Club scholarship competition. For the last two decades he has been exclusively a jazz musician performing with his own band Mill City Hot Club and other local groups. He is proud of his work as a guitar teacher for over 30 years at K & S Conservatory of Music in Woodbury\, The Music Lab in Minneapolis\, and Mount Olivet School of Music in Edina.

DESCRIPTION:6-7pm – Dan Gjelten\n \n\nDan Gjelten is a Saint Paul based fingerstyle guitarist who is inspired by the American Primitive tradition\, especially Leo Kottke and John Fahey. His instrumentals include folk threads\, roots\, blues\, and occasional reimagined hymns.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7-9pm – Bob Ockenden and Kevin Daley\n \n\n\nBob Ockenden began his jazz guitar studies at the Southwest Guitar Conservatory in San Antonio in 1980. In 1981 he moved to Milwaukee to attend the Wisconsin Conservatory in their small ensemble jazz program. Since 1985 he has been performing with numerous twin cities musicians. He attended Master classes with Herb Ellis\, Barney Kessler\, Lenny Breau\, and studied privately with Larry Coryell. In 1966 he released a CD with noted guitarist Jack Grassel which received favorable reviews in the jazz media. \n\n\nUpon graduating from the Berklee College of Music\, Kevin Daley has been active as a performer\, educator\, author and composer for the past 40 years.  As a freelance guitarist he’s performed music ranging from jazz and pop to bluegrass and broadway musicals. His performances and compositions have received awards and been featured in concerts sponsored by the West Bank School of Music and Twin Cities J to Z concert series\, as well as appearing on Leigh Kamman’s Jazz Image. He’s served on the faculties of the Perpich Center for Arts Education\, St Mary’s College and McNally Smith College of Music. In addition\, Kevin has authored a series of method books published through the KJOS music company.

DESCRIPTION:After Hours Big Band – Fred Sturm’s Migrations\n\n\n\nTICKETS AVAILABLE HERE \nSettle in for an evening with After Hours Big Band: Fred Sturm’s Migrations—a journey through classic and modern big band charts\, played up close in Fingal’s Cave. \n“I have spoken at length to my students\, as well as to the members of the After Hours Big Band\, about music as a living art form.  The gist of this semi-soapboxed speech is that the music we play does not need to sound identical to their original recordings.  (This is when I would normally bemoan\, “If I wanted to hear the original recordings\, I would do just that… listen to the original recordings.”)  Rather\, the music lives on because of the people playing it\, it is a Living Art Form. \nThis embodies the After Hours Big Band in my mind: a network of friends who wanted to see their own playing live on after years of playing in collegiate ensembles (as well as high school and middle school jazz bands.) \nThe original ensemble consisted of educators from Minnesota and Wisconsin; meeting once a month to play through a handful of “old favorites.”  In the years that followed\, the group expanded and evolved into both a performing ensemble as well as an educational resource for Twin Cities school music programs. \nThe After Hours Big Band continues to perform for a variety of events and is dedicated to performing the highest quality of music while reaching a broad variety of audience members.  We have performed community concerts\, weddings\, private parties\, school outreach concerts\, alongside wonderful guest artists\, and more.” \nMichale Pearson\,  Director \n. \nYour ticket supports The MetroNOME Foundation’s mission: making music education possible for any child who loves music.
