DESCRIPTION:JC Sanford’s EQ (Electric Quartet)\nJC Sanford – trombone/effects\nToivo Hannigan – electric guitar\nErik Fratzke – electric bass\nBen Ehrlich – drums\n\nJC Sanford has appeared on over 30 recordings as a trombonist\, conductor\, composer\, and producer. He has regularly been recognized as a “Rising Star” trombonist in DownBeat Magazine’s Critic’s Polls over the past several years and has performed with the likes of Danilo Pérez\, Matt Wilson\, and Anthony Cox. His original compositions and arrangements have been performed by such diverse artists as John Abercrombie\, Dave Liebman\, Danilo Perez\, Gretchen Parlato\, the Swedish Wind Ensemble\, Japanese koto-player Yumi Kurosawa\, British singer-songwriter Joy Askew\, and Grammy-nominated classical pianist Andrew Russo. In addition to his own orchestra\, JC also conducts the thrice-Grammy-nominated John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble\, and has conducted the Alice Coltrane Orchestra\, the North German Radio Jazz Big Band (NDR)\, the Alan Ferber Nonet with Strings\, and John Ellis’ ICE SIREN. Since returning to his home state of MN from New York City in 2016\, he was awarded a 2018 McKnight Composer Fellowship\, has received several grants from the MN State Arts Board to record his various groups\, founded the Northfield Jazz Festival\, and co-founded the Twin Cities Jazz Composers’ Workshop with wife and fellow composer Asuka Kakitani.

SUMMARY:Will Kjeer Trio
DESCRIPTION:NYC-based pianist and composer Will Kjeer stands out as one of the most versatile jazz artists of his generation. A recent graduate of the Juilliard School’s M.M. program\, Will’s expansive and nuanced approach to creative music has earned him recognition from living legends of the jazz vanguard and contemporary pioneers alike. Guitarist Russell Malone called Will “a pianist of exceptional heart”\, and drummer Dave King (of The Bad Plus) was so impressed with Will’s intentionality that he offered to produce and perform on Will’s 2025 debut album. Will has won numerous awards as a performer/composer\, including being selected by American composing genius Billy Childs as a winner of Ravinia’s Bridges Composition Competition. He is also a winner of the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition\, the Angel City Jazz Festival Young Artist Competition\, and the Jazz Fest Bonn International JazzBeet Competition. He is an alumni of Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead and the Steans Music Institute\, and has performed for Herbie Hancock as a finalist for admission to the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute. Will is currently a member of the BMI Composer’s Workshop in New York\, and has performed his original music across America at venues including the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts\, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, Ravinia’s Bennett Gordon Hall in Chicago\, and Dizzy’s at Lincoln Center in New York City. \nWill grew up performing in his hometown of Saint Paul\, MN\, and pursued jazz and classical music at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan before earning a B.F.A. at the California Institute of the Arts in 2019. He enjoyed a burgeoning career in Los Angeles before returning to MN to weather the pandemic. In 2022 he moved to New York\, having been the only pianist admitted to the Juilliard Jazz program that year. His current initiatives include the Will Kjeer Trio\, which has performed his “whimsical\, lyrical\, and heartfelt” compositions across the country for eight years\, the Will Kjeer Quintet\, and a jazz/classical chamber ensemble featuring string quartet. He has collaborated for the past three years with folk legend Larry Long\, often referred to as “The Pete Seeger of Minnesota”. Will is an active music educator and has been a clinician at Lincoln Center\, California State University Fullerton\, The Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists\, and Shell Lake Arts Center\, in addition to his private studio.

DESCRIPTION:“fantastic Django Reinhardt-inspired melodies” – Baby Blue Arts \n  \nThe Red Hot Django Peppers is a band that formed from the love of the music of Django Reinhardt. The troupe consists of guitarists Ryan Picone and Jose Betanzos\, violinist Danny Lentz\, and bassist Sean Roderick. \n  \nThe Red Hot Django Peppers had their premiere performance in early 2019 at Moto-I and were then asked to play at the Artists’ Showcase in May 2019. The ensemble is steadily being recognized as one of the up-and-coming hot club jazz groups in the Twin Cities.

DESCRIPTION:Jon Elconin is a Twin Cities guitarist and composer who plays music in a wide variety of styles including jazz\, rock\, R&B\, and hip hop.  In addition to leading his own combo\, he also plays with Solana and the Sunsets\, Fairy Boat\, Soul Tribe and more. \nIn October 2024 he released his first single as a leader\, “If Then\,” a poignant instrumental track that interweaves elements of classical music and jazz.  Now\, with the help of local talents Peter Hayward (bass)\, Nick Zuck (drums)\, and Ethan Rasmussen (keys) Elconin will be releasing his first EP\, consisting of all original jazz numbers\, and commemorating it with a performance at the Metronome Brewery.\n \nBryn Battani  Growing up in Austin\, Texas\, Bryn immersed herself in the area’s dynamic music scene\, co-producing her debut EP All I Have to Offer You Is Anything You Want with Curtis McMurtry and Diana Burgess (of Austin’s Mother Falcon) in 2020. Her sophomore EP Hang Your Clothes explores her relationship with ADHD through smart lyricism and lively string parts. \nAfter relocating to the Twin Cities in September 2023\, Bryn has landed a slew of radio and press features\, collaborated with countless local artists\, and commanded audiences through arrestingly intimate performances. Her third EP\, Guest Room\, ruminates on distance and desire\, serving up a strong dose of wit and self-awareness.

DESCRIPTION:Bok Choy is a Jazz Fusion and Funk Band based out of Minneapolis\, Minnesota. Hailing from all over the Midwest and attending universities all over the country\, the members come together to give a unique conversation through music. A live performance from Bok Choy contains music from artists such as Snarky Puppy\, Ghost Note\, Cory Wong\, and many more\, as well as original music. Their current project\, Shades\, is an EP that has been written\, recorded\, produced\, and mastered completely independently and remotely. \nDating back to when Thomas and Aiden were in middle school\, Bok Choy started as a drum and guitar duo. It has since gone through many variations and a plethora of members helping the band grow and teaching us all how the music industry works. The band started playing family shows and now has the versatility to play smaller venues or breweries all the way up to larger outdoor venues.
