SUMMARY:Take That Back
DESCRIPTION:Take That Back started as the meeting-of-the-minds of two veteran musicians\, Joan Hutton and Sue Orfield. Drawn together by a passion for original music\, both bandleaders are composers and improvisers\, each with her own unique musical voice. Joan Hutton plays bass clarinet and alto sax and Sue Orfield plays the tenor sax. They joined creative forces with an incredible rhythm section of some of the Twin Cities’ top players–Ted Godbout (piano)\, Kameron Markworth (bass)\, and David Schmalenberger (drums)–and together they have released two albums of original music on Shifting Paradigm Records: Take That Back (2022) and Splash (2024).

DESCRIPTION:6-7:30pm – Wayne Fisher and David Crittenden Duo\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nDavid Crittenden started playing the guitar in his early teens. He is an accomplished classical guitarist and teacher in the twin cities area. He is currently on the music faculty at Minneapolis College.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWayne Fisher also started playing the guitar in his early teens. He has played in rock and roll bands\, studied classical guitar and now exclusively plays jazz guitar.  \n\nTogether David and Wayne enjoy arranging and playing jazz tunes that have been played by jazz musicians for many years.\n\n\n\n\n\n7:30-9pm – Dan Schwartz & Nick Salisbury – Guitar & Bass Duo\n \n\n\nRoots based\, melody driven tunes set in a loose jazz framework.  Both members of The Neighborhood Quartet.\n\nDan Schwartz has played with many singer-songwriters and acoustic acts\, including Dan Navarro and Peter Mayer.\n\nBassist Nick Salisbury is a particular favorite with songwriters and Americana acts such as Brian Fallon\, Sarah Morris\, Jack Klatt\, and the Dollys.

DESCRIPTION:Prairie Fire Choir (PFC) is a Twin Cities-based\, treble-voiced\, acapella group that welcomes women (cis and trans) and non-binary singers to raise their collective voices. \nFormed in 2010\, PFC offers a supportive\, fun\, and educational environment to explore musical passions and give back through partnerships with causes close to our hearts. PFC performs original music and arrangements of folk\, pop\, and rock songs. The choir is a self-directed and democratically run non-profit. PFC has 70 members and performs at a wide variety of events and venues throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. \nWe sing together to build a more joyful\, just\, and connected community. \nWe value fairness\, justice\, equity\, respect\, openness\, inclusivity and authenticity. We amplify causes including but not limited to social justice\, women’s rights\, racial justice\, environmental justice\, and LGBTQ rights.

DESCRIPTION:Bob Frey & the Adaptors are excited to return to metroNOME’s Fingal’s Cave room for this July \nshow! Those familiar with Bob’s work recognize him as a veteran\, literate songwriter who \ncontinues to add to his impressive repertoire\, debuting new songs at just about every show! \nWhether playing solo or with his band- Bob Frey & the Adaptors– Bob delivers wry\, intelligent \nlyrics in well-crafted songs with a voice uniquely his own. Bob Frey & the Adaptors features \nGavin Haskin (mandolin)\, Marc Conklin (electric guitar) and Corey Hess (percussion)\, all \nstellar Twin Cities musicians who create a warm and melodic base for Bob’s lyrics. Bob has \nreleased five solo records- “Tape From Minnesota” (2004)\, “Like A Train” (2007)\, “Nothing \nHid” (2013)\, “LongShot Deal” (2017) and “Ghost” (2022)\, the latter receiving an 8.5/10 \nrating from the well-regarded Maximum Volume Music. In his review of “Ghost” for \nFolking.com\, Bill Golembeski wrote\, “Midwest singer-songwriter Bob Frey’ s new Ghost album \nis a sincerely whittled selection of whiskey-soaked and quite wonderful songs that bleed with \nGothic folk campfire prayers.” In reviewing Bob’s 2017 “Nothing Hid” album\, Harry Kaplan of \nTwangri-La wrote\, “Smart songwriting is what Bob Frey is all about. These are not songs as \nmuch as they are poems set to music. They are incredibly tangible and all of them tell a great \nstory or require some thought or introspection.”

DESCRIPTION:The MFB Night Crew is a new-ly formed group with the purpose of offering it’s individuals an opportunity to explore the world of jazz improvisation.\nThe group draws its members from two larger groups\,  The Minnesota Freedom Band and the Minnesota Freedom Jazz bands\, both long -time GLBT+ friends bands.\nThe creation of this smaller group was made possible by a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council along with legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.\nFeatured songs include compositions by Dizzy Gillespie\,  Eddie Harris\,  Duke Ellington\,  and of course lets not forget the late Sonny Rollins incorporating jazz\, latin\, and funk standards.\nComing from different walks of life\, and many new to the world of jazz\, the members share the common interest to explore and grow.

SUMMARY:The Will Aldrich Quartet
DESCRIPTION:with Ataa-Adjetey Mensah\, Xavier Johnson-Ryan\, and Callum Schultz. \nWill Aldrich is a Minnesota-based saxophonist\, multi-instrumentalist\, and composer who excels in jazz tradition. He has played numerous shows across the Twin Cities including an opening set for Wynton Marsalis at Orchestra Hall\, multiple performances at the Twin Cities Jazz Fest\, the Taste of Minnesota\, and performances at Berlin\, KJ’s Hideaway\, the Metronome Brewery\, Crooners\, among others. He is a saxophonist looking to push boundaries between jazz\, hip-hop\, and other styles while maintaining a deep understanding and respect for the history of jazz music. \nWill and the Roof Access band unanimously placed 1st in the 2023 Eau Jazz Festival and have conducted many shows across the Cities showcasing their unique fusion of classic swing\, hip-hop\, modern jazz\, and Afro-Latin influences. Their debut album “Roof Access” featuring originals by Will Aldrich\, Ataa Mensah\, Rafi Karpowitz\, and Callum Schultz is now available on CD and on all streaming platforms. \nCurrently studying Jazz Performance at Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio\, Will studies with 2024 NEA Jazz Master Gary Bartz as well as with master bass player Gerald Cannon\, Grammy award winning pianist Luis Perdomo\, among other acclaimed faculty. Will is also an alum of the illustrious Walker West Music Academy in Saint Paul\, studying under all its faculty including Kavyesh Kaviraj\, Kevin E. Washington\, Ted Olson\, Jack Breen\, and many more.
