SUMMARY:Steve Kenny Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Steve Kenny Quintet will play a few selections from the recently released “Blue Chunks” CD intermixed with some crowd-pleasing favorite Jazz Standards selected from the group’s multiple years of performances. There will probably be some Coltrane material as well.\n\nSteve Kenny is active in the Minnesota Jazz community as a Performer\, Composer\, and Curator. Steve is a founding member of ‘the illicit sextet’\, “Group 47”\, “What Would Monk Do?” and his own “Quartets”. Steve was the curator of a weekly Saturday Jazz series at kj’s hideaway\, and before that at the Black Dog Cafe\, producing over 400 Saturday Night Jazz shows.  in 2020\, he released “Quartets”\, on Shifting Paradigm Records. It includes original compositions played by 4 separate ensembles of Twin Cities Jazz musicians\, including a Live version of Steve Kenny’s Ghost Suite. in 2025\, Steve released another CD “Blue Chunks” at Dakota Jazz Club. SUMMARY:Sam Stauning Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Sam Stauning Quartet is a new small jazz ensemble created and led by tenor saxophonist\nSam Stauning. The group consists of some of the best young musicians in the Twin Cities. The\ngroup will perform various tunes from jazz standards to newer modern tunes.\nInfo for each band member: \nSam Stauning is a 17 year old up and coming tenor saxophonist currently a part of the Dakota\nEnsemble at MacPhail. He has received mentorship from local legends such as Peter Whitman\,\nKavyesh Kaviraj\, Jack Breen\, Kevin Washington\, Zacc Harris\, Abebi Stafford\, Ian Duerr\, and\nJesse Simon to name a few. Sam has played at Berlin\, the Dakota\, Twin Cities Jazz Festival\,\nand Minneapolis Institute of Art. He has received the award of Outstanding Soloist at the Eau\nClaire Jazz Festival. \nCallum Schultz is a 17 year old bassist who has performed alongside saxophone greats Joe\nLovano\, Kenni Holmen\, and JD Allen\, and has played at numerous Twin Cities venues such as\nThe Dakota\, the Landmark Center\, the Governor’s Residence\, The Green Room\, and Berlin\nJazz Club. He is a 2025/26 MN All State musician\, and a 2025/26 YoungArts jazz bass award\nwinner. \nAtaa\, who started playing drums as a toddler under the influence of his father\, the renowned\nGhanaian percussionist Sowah Mensah\, honed his craft under mentorship from local jazz greats\nlike Kevin Washington\, Felix James\, and Kavyesh Kaviraj. He has since become a fixture in the\nlocal music scene\, performing both as a leader and sideman. \nXavier Johnson Ryan is an up-and-coming jazz pianist in the Twin Cities area. He has\nperformed at venues including Icehouse\, the Green Room\, Jazz Central Studios\, the Dakota\,\nBerlin\, and the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. Johnson Ryan is a longstanding member of Twin Cities\nband Half Past Midnight and has played with jazz greats Kyle Poole and Joe Lovano among\nothers. He has studied under acclaimed jazz artists Kavyesh Kaviraj\, Kevin Washington\, Jack\nBreen\, and Solomon Parham.

DESCRIPTION:Dean Magraw (guitar) + Suwal Singh (tabla) explore\, extend\, and celebrate their music at MetroNOME. Their duo is a unique expression of the interplay between strings and percussion – featuring the sonic cornucopia of tabla weaving into the colorful vibrations of guitar – melodies\, grooves\, laughter\, tears\, heart – hear it\, heal it. \nBios:\nDean Magraw has had a life of music—playing\, composing\, arranging\, producing\, and recording. Magraw’s music is impossible to pigeonhole. For 15 years\, he was half of a duo with Peter Ostroushko (mandolin). He has collaborated with Masahiro Nitta (shamisen)\, Nigel Kennedy (classical violin)\, Nirmala Rajasekar (vina); with singers Bruce Henry\, Ruth MacKenzie\, Claudia Schmidt; and with the Irish supergroup Altan. As a jazz cat\, he has been performing with Chris Bates + Jay Epstein as Red Planet since 2002\, and more recently formed BluLuna. \nSuwal Singh has contributed to the Minnesota music scene as part of SitarTabla (Eastern classical)\, MoMoSauce (Nepali music)\, Yeti Steady (avant-garde soundscapes)\, Jest (pop-rock) and MajMin (world music). He has collaborated with diverse local artists and has appeared at Jazz Central Studios\, Icehouse\, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center\, Berlin Jazz Club\, KFAI\, Landmark Center\, Dunsmore Jazz Room\, etc.

SUMMARY:Fuzzy Math
DESCRIPTION:Fuzzy Math has been a fixture on the Twin Cities scene for well over a decade now.  The group is led by Mark Vandermyde\, a classically-trained pianist and organist who began migrating from Mozart to Miles in middle school\, studied composition at Harvard University\, and banged around with blues bands for a while after college until rediscovering his love of jazz\, and writing\, and writing jazz.  Since then he’s managed to surround himself with some of the finest players in town (Andrew Schwandt on tenor sax\, Matt Peterson on bass and Haralds Bondaris on drums) to help him bring to life his vision of creating music that’s interesting\, accessible and fun…serious music that doesn’t take itself too seriously\, and offers something for everyone.  They recently released their 5th CD unveiling a new iteration of their uniquely eclectic blend of original songs and creative pop/rock/folk covers for which the StarTribune once named them to its Best of Minnesota list for “best jazz act for people bored with jazz”.  Racket (successor to the City Pages arts beat) called them “fluid as hell…generously melodic…alternately tender and brawny…nuanced…this is jazz that never gets too far out but never dawdles too close to home – a genuine sweet spot.”
