DESCRIPTION:Dean Magraw (guitar) + Suwal Singh (tabla) explore\, extend\, and celebrate their music at MetroNOME. Their duo is a unique expression of the interplay between strings and percussion – featuring the sonic cornucopia of tabla weaving into the colorful vibrations of guitar – melodies\, grooves\, laughter\, tears\, heart – hear it\, heal it. \nBios:\nDean Magraw has had a life of music—playing\, composing\, arranging\, producing\, and recording. Magraw’s music is impossible to pigeonhole. For 15 years\, he was half of a duo with Peter Ostroushko (mandolin). He has collaborated with Masahiro Nitta (shamisen)\, Nigel Kennedy (classical violin)\, Nirmala Rajasekar (vina); with singers Bruce Henry\, Ruth MacKenzie\, Claudia Schmidt; and with the Irish supergroup Altan. As a jazz cat\, he has been performing with Chris Bates + Jay Epstein as Red Planet since 2002\, and more recently formed BluLuna. \nSuwal Singh has contributed to the Minnesota music scene as part of SitarTabla (Eastern classical)\, MoMoSauce (Nepali music)\, Yeti Steady (avant-garde soundscapes)\, Jest (pop-rock) and MajMin (world music). He has collaborated with diverse local artists and has appeared at Jazz Central Studios\, Icehouse\, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center\, Berlin Jazz Club\, KFAI\, Landmark Center\, Dunsmore Jazz Room\, etc.

SUMMARY:MN Guitar Society Monthly FREE Concert - Hot Club Jazz!
DESCRIPTION:6-7pm – Robb Henry and Jeff Perry\n \nRobb Henry (https://robbhenry.com/) received his first electric guitar in 1965 at the age of 12 and began performing with bands the following year.  His experience playing with blues artist Mojo Buford from early 1969 through 1970 had a lasting impact on his developing guitar style. In 2001 he formed the collective group Parisota Hot Club to explore the music of French guitarist Django Reinhardt.  Recent Robb Henry trio dates feature an eclectic mix of jazz\, blues\, rock and pop instrumentals played finger-style on his Fender Stratocaster.\n\nSt. Paul guitarist Jeff Perry has been described as “a fusion guitarist in the best sense of the word” (Twin Cities Blues News). He has been called “Fabulous…one of the Twin Cities’ best” by the Dakota Jazz Club and is known for his “hip retooling” (Star Tribune) of great pop songs. As a leader of the Sonic Dream trio and sideman\, Perry has played at many high-profile venues in the Twin Cities going back decades including Dakota\, Crooners\, Target Field\, Ordway Center for the Arts\, Orchestra Hall\, The Walker Art Center\, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres and more.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7-9pm – Sam and Matthew Miltich\n \n\nSam Miltich <https://www.sammiltichmusic.com/> is a self-taught jazz guitarist born and raised in the woods of northern Minnesota. Sam burst on the scene in his teens as a young lion of gypsy jazz\, joining Paul Mehling’s Hot Club of San Francisco and touring internationally with the world-renowned Robin Nolan Trio.  Sam’s fluid and instinctive sound has graced hundreds of stages\, from small towns on the Iron Range to New York’s Lincoln Center. Sam Miltich is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Sam will be joined by his father Matthew on bass.

DESCRIPTION:Steve Kenny Quintet will play a few selections from the recently released “Blue Chunks” CD intermixed with some crowd-pleasing favorite Jazz Standards selected from the group’s multiple years of performances. There will probably be some Coltrane material as well.\n\nSteve Kenny is active in the Minnesota Jazz community as a Performer\, Composer\, and Curator. Steve is a founding member of ‘the illicit sextet’\, “Group 47”\, “What Would Monk Do?” and his own “Quartets”. Steve was the curator of a weekly Saturday Jazz series at kj’s hideaway\, and before that at the Black Dog Cafe\, producing over 400 Saturday Night Jazz shows.  in 2020\, he released “Quartets”\, on Shifting Paradigm Records. It includes original compositions played by 4 separate ensembles of Twin Cities Jazz musicians\, including a Live version of Steve Kenny’s Ghost Suite. in 2025\, Steve released another CD “Blue Chunks” at Dakota Jazz Club. They joined creative forces with an incredible rhythm section of some of the Twin Cities’ top players–Ted Godbout (piano)\, Kameron Markworth (bass)\, and David Schmalenberger (drums)–and together they have released two albums of original music on Shifting Paradigm Records: Take That Back (2022) and Splash (2024).

DESCRIPTION:6-7:30pm – Wayne Fisher and David Crittenden Duo\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nDavid Crittenden started playing the guitar in his early teens. He is an accomplished classical guitarist and teacher in the twin cities area. He is currently on the music faculty at Minneapolis College.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWayne Fisher also started playing the guitar in his early teens. He has played in rock and roll bands\, studied classical guitar and now exclusively plays jazz guitar.  \n\nTogether David and Wayne enjoy arranging and playing jazz tunes that have been played by jazz musicians for many years.\n\n\n\n\n\n7:30-9pm – Dan Schwartz & Nick Salisbury – Guitar & Bass Duo\n \n\n\nRoots based\, melody driven tunes set in a loose jazz framework.  Both members of The Neighborhood Quartet.\n\nDan Schwartz has played with many singer-songwriters and acoustic acts\, including Dan Navarro and Peter Mayer.\n\nBassist Nick Salisbury is a particular favorite with songwriters and Americana acts such as Brian Fallon\, Sarah Morris\, Jack Klatt\, and the Dollys.
