Alvaro will perform “Star Wars for Classical Guitar”.\n\n\n\n\n\n7-9pm Duo CORDA \n \nFrom Astor Piazzolla and Joaquín Rodrigo to Chick Corea\, Django Reinhardt and much more\, plus some original material – that’s the repertoire of Duo CORDA.\n \n\nJacqueline Ultan is a singularly creative cellist and composer. Also a dedicated teacher\, Ultan is on the faculty of MacPhail’s Center for Music and holds a Master’s Degree in Performance from Yale University. In demand locally and nationally\, Ultan has recorded and collaborated extensively with many theater\, pop\, jazz\, rock and new music artists.\n\nPavel Jany is a contemporary jazz guitarist and composer whose long musical journey encompasses many various styles. Pavel has founded several international jazz projects on the Twin Cities’ music scene\, including Brazilian jazz ensemble “Ticket To Brasil”\, acoustic jazz trio “Talking Strings”\, and jazz fusion group “Global Jazz Collegium”.

DESCRIPTION:MetroNOME is thrilled to welcome Logan Metz to Fingal’s Cave. \nBIO: “Logan Metz is a musician\, writer\, and composer based in the American Midwest. His songwriting spans many genres\, from jazz and rock to folk and country\, but it’s all marked by artful chord changes\, a character-centric narrative style\, and a wry lyrical wit rooted firmly in the Tom Waits/ Randy Newman school of piano-based storytelling. \nHe’s written plays\, essays\, poems\, soundtracks\, and children’s albums\, and in 2015 earned a Master’s degree from University of Chicago for his rock opera adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Othello”. Soon after he released his first solo album\, “The Last Remaining Payphone in L.A.” (2016). \nIn 2018 Metz won a Fulbright fellowship to teach at IE University in Madrid\, but turned down the award in favor of re-joining his old college friends’ band\, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real\, as a multi-instrumentalist. Since then he has had the honor of playing with Neil Young\, Stephen Stills\, Joe Walsh\, Jimmy Buffett\, Eddie Vedder\, Warren Haynes\, Robby Krieger\, John Densmore\, Bob Weir\, and in 2023 toured on piano for Willie Nelson. \nHe’s currently working on a bunch of passion projects\, including a strategy card game\, a full-scale stage musical\, and a brand new solo album\, coming out early next year.” \n

DESCRIPTION:6-7pm Jerry Kosak\n\nJerry Kosak is a guitarist and composer hailed for his “obvious talent and wonderfully recorded guitar” (Tommy Emmanuel)\, as well as his “great spirit and mean guitar playing” (Don Alder). His genre-bending programs and wide-ranging collaborations have grown out of “a great reflection of many different styles” (KBEM Jazz 88). Kosak has collaborated with world-class artists across genres and disciplines including DJ Freddy Fresh (Austin Powers in Goldmember)\, Grammy-winning guitarist Pat Donohue\, and MRAC and MAC grant-recipient visual artists Petra Johnita Lommen and MaryBeth Garrigan (Avian Night Sky).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7-9pm PK Mayo\nA native son of northern Minnesota\, PK Mayo grew up in the mining town of Eveleth. From an early age\, when he was known as Paul Kennedy Mayasich\, he soaked up a wide range of diverse styles of music coming over the airwaves of the local college radio station\, KUMD. Mayo has played behind a veritable who’s who of rock\, blues and jazz royalty including Johnny Lang\, Tracy Nelson\, David Hidalgo (Los Lobos)\, Shannon Curfman\, Dinah Washington\, Jack McDuff\, Terry Evans\, Big Walter Smith\, Bernard Allison\, Leland Sklar and Mark Naftalin\, to name a few. He’s racked up a shelf of awards\, including induction into both the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame and the Minnesota Rock & Country Hall of Fame. Mayo’s abilities playing slide guitar (acoustic and electric) with his rare touch\, feel and dynamism on the instruments\, combined with his accomplished original songwriting and soulful vocals – Mayo is the complete package.

SUMMARY:Woodzen
DESCRIPTION:Woodzen has been compared to an immense variety of bands (The Wallflowers\, Gov’t Mule\, The War on Drugs). Melding funk grooves with jazzy saxophone\, blistering guitars\, ethereal keyboards\, and shimmering vocal harmonies\, Woodzen’s live shows capture the essence of a jam band that’s not really a jam band. Add in evocative lyrics and call it psychedelic folk. Or\, go see for yourself.\nThe earliest iteration of Woodzen began when Jake Johnson (lead vocals\, guitar\, and violin) and Brody Kucera (percussionist) were assigned as roommates at Hamline University in 2018. They would often head to the practice room on Fridays to work on Jake’s song ideas. Through the music classes and ensemble practices at Hamline\, Jake and Brody met Bob Delage (aka. Big Bass Bob)\, and the core group from which Woodzen began to grow. Later meeting Lydia Lecher and Peter Hanson through Hamline’s jazz programs\, Woodzen’s sound became more defined as Lydia’s keys and Peter’s saxophone were added. Finally\, after Bob’s lifelong friend Ben Brunfelt joined the band on guitar\, Woodzen as it is today took form. Today\, Jake\, Brody\, Bob and Ben all live together and are able to hone their craft and inspire each other everyday in an attempt to play their instruments at a higher level. You might recognize members of Woodzen playing with other local bands\, such as Emmy Woods and the Red Pine Ramblers\, Greg Volker and the River\, Jesse Anderson Band\, and The Matt Arthur Contraption. \nWoodzen’s first full length album is set to release in the spring of 2024.
