MetroNOME Youth Jazz Orchestra – April 2025
Purpose
To provide a high quality weekend program for youth jazz musicians at an accessible price. Program includes a day of workshop and rehearsal, followed by a final performance the next day. Students will have the opportunity to play in a jazz orchestra, develop as both ensemble players and improvisers, and meet other young Twin Cities musicians.
Eligible Students
This program is not auditioned, but students must submit a short application before purchasing a spot. This helps us make sure we don’t overload the program by accident. Spots will be given to applicants on a first come, first serve basis.

These are the criteria for eligible students:
Student plays one of the following instruments: alto sax, tenor sax, clarinet, bari sax, trumpet, trombone, guitar*, piano, bass, drum set.
Student can provide their own instrument (except piano and drums).
Student is in grades 9-12
Student has least three years of experience on the instrument they’ll be playing for the program
The program can accommodate:
Two alto saxophonists
Two tenor saxophonists
One bari saxophonist
Four trumpet players
Four trombonists
One guitarist*
2 pianists
2 bassists
2 drummersProgram is able to accommodate an extra horn or two if there is interest.
Program cannot accommodate extra rhythm section players.
*guitar students must be able to read notes on a staff and chord symbols. There will be no tablature provided.
Schedule
Program dates:
April 26th:
Rehearsal/Workshop from 9am-3pm
April 27th
Final performance from 2-3pm
Rehearsals and performance will be held in Fingal’s Cave at MetroNOME
Brewery.

Cost to Participants
The program will cost students $50.00 to participate. This is a far cheaper rate than similar programs.
Sign up will run through the MetroNOME website.
Students who cannot afford the program but would like to participate can reach
out – MetroNOME is committed to supporting underprivileged youth in the Twin
