Thursday August 13th, 7:00 pm! Dean Magraw (guitar) + Suwal Singh (tabla) explore, extend, and celebrate their music at MetroNOME. Their duo is a unique expression of the interplay between strings and percussion – featuring the sonic cornucopia of tabla weaving into the colorful vibrations of guitar – melodies, grooves, laughter, tears, heart – hear it, heal it. Bios: Dean Magraw has had a life of music—playing, composing, arranging, producing, and recording. Magraw’s music is impossible to pigeonhole. For 15 years, he was half of a duo with Peter Ostroushko (mandolin). He has collaborated with Masahiro Nitta (shamisen), Nigel Kennedy (classical violin), Nirmala Rajasekar (vina); with singers Bruce Henry, Ruth MacKenzie, Claudia Schmidt; and with the Irish supergroup Altan. As a jazz cat, he has been performing with Chris Bates + Jay Epstein as Red Planet since 2002, and more recently formed BluLuna. Suwal Singh has contributed to the Minnesota music scene as part of SitarTabla (Eastern classical), MoMoSauce (Nepali music), Yeti Steady (avant-garde soundscapes), Jest (pop-rock) and MajMin (world music). He has collaborated with diverse local artists and has appeared at Jazz Central Studios, Icehouse, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, Berlin Jazz Club, KFAI, Landmark Center, Dunsmore Jazz Room, etc.

TONIGHT! MN Guitar Society Monthly FREE Concert – Hot Club Jazz! 6-7pm – Robb Henry and Jeff Perry Robb Henry received his first electric guitar in 1965 at the age of 12 and began performing with bands the following year. His experience playing with blues artist Mojo Buford from early 1969 through 1970 had a lasting impact on his developing guitar style. Jeff Perry has been described as “a fusion guitarist in the best sense of the word” (Twin Cities Blues News). 7-9pm – Sam and Matthew Miltich Sam Miltich is a self-taught jazz guitarist born and raised in the woods of northern Minnesota. Sam burst on the scene in his teens as a young lion of gypsy jazz, joining Paul Mehling’s Hot Club of San Francisco and touring internationally with the world-renowned Robin Nolan Trio.. Sam will be joined by his father Matthew on bass.
